Hamdy El-Gazzar is an Egyptian writer born in Giza. He has been publishing since the 1990s; his literary output includes novels, short stories, stage plays and screenplays. His first novel “Black Magic” (Sehr Aswad) won the Sawiris Prize and has been translated into English by Humphrey Davies. His second novel “Secret Pleasures” (Ladhdhat Sirriyya) was published in 2008. He was one of the 39 young Arab authors chosen by the Beirut 39 project. Suzana Tratnik is a writer, translator, publicist. She has published seven collections of short stories, two novels, children’s picture book, as well as a monodrama and a radio play. She has also published essays and non-fiction books. Her short stories and books are translated into more than 20 languages. She has received the national “Prešeren Foundation Award” for Literature in 2007. Her book “The Parallels” was published in 2006, translated into Arabic by Mohsen Elhady & Margrit Elhady, and is one of the few contemporary Slovenian books translated into Arabic. It was awarded the national Preseren’s Fund Prize in 2007

Slavenka Drakulić, born in Croatia  (former Yugoslavia), is a journalist, novelist, and essayist whose works on feminism, communism, and postcommunism have been translated into many languages. Drakulić lives in Stockholm and Zagreb. Slavenka Drakulić is the recipient of the 2004 Leipzig Book-fair “Award for European Understanding.” At the Gathering of International Writers in Prague in 2010 she was proclaimed as one of the most influential European writers of our time.

Her book “Café Europa: Life After Communism” was translated and published in Arabic with support by Next Page Foundation within its  East – South Translation Grants 2011.
